Variations in your raglan

You can easily give your raglan some character by playing a bit around with the way you add stitches. In a traditional raglan, the increases are extremely discreet. The increases are twisted to show as little as possible. That certainly has its merits - this basic sweater can be used for everything (god knows we've knitted a lot of these). However, sometimes something else and more is needed. You can  choose to embrace the decorative pattern the increase can provide your work to give your sweater character and personality.

We go through four simple variations on the same eyelet pattern in the raglan. They are all knitted starting from one raglan stitch which lies as a stable stripe in the middle, but there is nothing to prevent you from making it with several stitches in the stripe. You choose that yourself when you design your sweater.

Single eyelet lace

Not much to say here. The only thing you have to do is to replace the left- respectively right-leaning increases with a yarn over increase - and voila!

Double, triple and quadruple eyelet lace pattern

Here we move the increase away from the raglan stripe in inverted v's going down from the neck towards the armpits. The system in the pattern report is that each time the increase will move one stitch further away from the raglan stitch in the middle. Depending on what you want, this is repeated with 2, 3 or 4 increases which in turn is repeated as many times as you need in your pattern. The pictures illustrate the different expressions and the diagrams are quite simple to read. As usual, they are read from right to left from bottom to top. If you have problems, please write.

You also have the option to do a faux cable stitch - like this one in  Hedvigs sistersweater.

Happy knitting!
