Germain Cardigan Pattern

Light and airy cardigan with saddle shoulders and 3/4 balloon sleeves. It has 12 cm ease and somewhat narrow edges. It has no buttons or buttonholes

The cardigan is knitted top down. The neckline is shaped with shortrows. It is knitted on needle 7 which is quite a large needle for this type of delicate yarn. This results in a soft and airy feel plus is a quick knit. 

Germain Cardigan is named after the French mathematician, physicist and philosopher Sophie Germain (1776-1831). Her primary work was in number theory and she lends her name to the Sophie Germain primes. Today these are used in cryptography and are used to generate pseudo-random numbers.

Gauge: 15 stitches and 19 rows pr. 10 x 10 cm on needle 7.

Material: 150-250g of Silk Alpaca or Silk Mohair with a yardage of approx 210m/25g.  Note, sweater is knitted with the to strands of yarn held together  

Needles: Circular and/or double-pointed: 5.5 and 7 mm
